Weddings
Galore at Bit by Bit ...
Looks
like this is a year of weddings for Bit by Bit. Cupid is
back at Bit by Bit after a short break. After the weddings
of I P Santhosh & Jyoti, Shenoy & Usha, there are
more and more people getting ready to take the seven sacred
steps towards marital bliss.
Most
of the members of the Sepia team are getting married in the
near future, with the exception of Imran and Darshan. Spearheading
the chain of these happy occasions, is the wedding of Aruna
and Naveen which is to take place on 6th May 2004, closely
followed by that of Sairamesh with Hema on 26th May 2004.
Devaki is entering into wedlock with Hari Krishna, from Symphony,
sometime in June (the date is going to be announced shortly).
One
more member of Bit by Bit to be stricken off the list of
eligible bachelors is Arun B, from the Staffbank team. He
is engaged to Vidya and the wedding is to take place on 6th
June 2004.
Congratulations
to all these members of Bit by Bit who are just about to
tie the nuptial knot!!

Programmer
of the Month (top)

The
'Programmer of the Month' for April 2004 is Arun
Kumar for his Demonstration of English Like Queries
on Staffbank.
|
|
English
Query
Using
natural language technology, English Query helps users find
database information using plain English instead of a formal
query language. An English Query application uses English
commands, statements, and questions as input, determines
their meaning, and then writes and executes a database query.
For example, you might ask, "How many customers bought
products last year?" rather than prepare an equivalent
SQL statement. You can then use the English Query model in
any application that supports COM. For example, you can deploy
your English Query application on the Web. English Query
works with Web pages running on a Microsoft® Internet
Information Services (IIS) version 3.0 or later.

Issues (top)
List
of Issues Open for May 2004

(not implement) a component for standard emailing without
using MAPI compliant clients. The user should be able
to use a text-based template that is used as the template
for the merge. - 4 points
-
Link
MSDE installation to a standard PDW install for VB and
also into an WinInstaller install for QTM. - 3 points
-
Incorporate
Microsoft Net Meeting / Windows Messenger into a project
like StaffBank / Sepia / MESaLS allowing users to chat
with each other in real time. - 4 points
-
Demonstrate
the use of Microsoft Application verifier to verify if
any of the BbyB products comply with the Win XP logo
certification. If not, what changes need to be made to
achieve compliance. - 3 points
-
Demo
of XML based reporting tool that can be used instead
of Crystal reports in web applications. - 3 points
-
Any
suggestion which is accepted to speed up StaffBank/Sepia/MESaLS.
- 1 to 5 points depending on the suggestion
-
Any
accepted suggestion for improvement of Project Info software.
- 1 to 3 points
Note:
- Any
suggestion from employees that makes it to the list will
earn the employee 1 point.
- All
work has to be carried out of office hours. Office resources
like machines, servers, and software can be used but
requisite permissions must be sought.
- You
don't have to work alone on these issues. If you prefer
to work as a team to sort these issues then the points
will be divided among the team members in any ratio that
the team decides.
- Shenoy
has to be contacted before starting off on any of the
above issues so that the exact parameters that need to
be researched are worked out.
- Commercial
aspects, licensing, etc., must be clearly documented
in the submitted papers. Also, issues like installing,
live updating, etc., must be dealt with.
- Programmers
of the month get an award of Rs. 10000.00 and points
earned count towards the programmer of the year that
carries a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh which will be awarded
in December 2004.
- As
this is given only to motivate programmers it would totally
defeat the idea if the programmer of the year was won
by somebody who got just one point because no one else
bothered to participate. With that in mind, one has to
get a minimum of 5 points to be eligible for this award.
